How to find a job as a journalist
Make a resume and prepare a portfolio. In summary, in addition to standard personal data, tell us in detail about your experience related to the field of journalism. Write in any publications you have worked (even freelance). Specify which professional duties you performed at each place, what category or section in the publication was responsible, what theme was your profile. Do not hesitate to call your professional achievements, not exaggerating or diminishing its merits.
The portfolio should contain examples of your journalistic work. If already a lot, do not put in folder all in a row, select the highest quality, try to give examples of materials in various genres. If you have not worked you have not yet, directly before going to the interview write two or three journalistic texts in different genres to any information occasions (fresh). This will allow the employer to see your level of proficiency in word and information processing skills.
If you already know which publication would like to work, go there, even if the editors did not announce job vacancies. You will be able to speak with the management and ask them to give you a test task. If the editor will see you as a good specialist, he is unlikely to refuse cooperation. You may offer to work at least a freelance. If you want to work on radio or television, during the interview you will probably offer to do a test voice record or to demonstrate the work in frame. Be ready (both morally and professionally) for such tests, going for an interview.
Look for suitable jobs on the Internet. Use the search on the relevant Internet portals: select the media, publishing, PR, specify the desired level of wages and the mode of operation. If an offer you are interested, please send your resume to the employer.
Approximately the same job announcements you can find in specialized newspapers. You can contact the future bosses in this case either by e-mail or by phone.
