How to plan production
Building an effective planning system should be based on what needs to be produced for the market, what is needed to produce a given volume of products, what resources are already available, and what is missing. The answers to these questions will be the main points of the production plan.
This plan consists of several levels. Each of them has its own tasks, methods of their achievement, as well as the duration of the period and the amount of detail. The most common questions related to planning should be presented in a strategic business plan. It, as a rule, determines the position of the enterprise on the market in the future, in 5-10 years. The strategic plan gives a general idea of the role of the company, the output and the desired result. These plans are reviewed every 6-12 months.
After determining the strategy of the company decide the issue of the volume of products that need to be produced. For this, it is established how much material and labor resources will be needed, which the enterprise already has (equipment, reserves, labor). All this is recorded in the production plan. However, the detailing in it is carried out mainly by groups of goods, besides, the planning period is usually 1 year.
More specific volumes and types of production are set in the main calendar plan. It indicates not only the groups of goods produced, but also individual products, units, units. The calendar plan is drawn up for the near future for 1-3 months, and it can be reviewed every week.
To produce goods that are provided by the main schedule, it is necessary to provide the material and technical base of production. For this purpose, a resource requirements plan is used. It indicates the approximate dates of production of certain products, as well as the delivery of materials, labor and other resources necessary for their production. It is consistent with the schedule and is also subject to review weekly.
At each stage of production, control is exercised over the progress of work, as well as the degree of compliance with the strategic and calendar plan.
