How to settle in the UN
Even if you have a suitable specialty and qualification level for work in the UN, it will not be easy to get a job in one of the organizations within its structure. This is primarily due to the fact that the quota allocated to citizens of Russia and many CIS countries is exceeded every year. Go to the UN Russian site (http://www.un.org/ru/) and familiarize yourself with the size of the quota for next year, in order to really assess your opportunities for getting a job.
Go to http://www.unsystem.org and check out the list of sites of UN organizations. Visit those of them, the work in which you would be interested. Find out the conditions for applying for vacancies offered by each of these departments.
To apply for a job, first go to http://careers.un.org and register as a candidate for the position you have chosen.
It may also happen that you can start working at the UN, literally without leaving your home, as you live in a region where there are no official representatives of it, or where help is needed from this organization. In this case, control over your work will be carried out by local authorities, with which you will have to coordinate all your further actions.
Depending on exactly which region of the country and the world the UN requires staff of your qualifications, you will need to constantly coordinate your actions with agencies and departments at various levels (up to the ministries).
Even if you decide to join the ranks of volunteers in one of the missions in not the most prosperous regions, your work can be different: from saving a population dying from exotic diseases to working as a temporary adviser on international issues.
Before you get a job placement in the UN structure, get tested and take exams for the official language of your chosen country. The testing program usually includes questions regarding international law and the law of the state for which you are applying for a job.
