How to get a job at the UN
Even if you have the appropriate specialty and the level of qualifications for working in the UN, it will not be easy to get a job in one of the organizations that make up its structure. This is due, first of all, to the fact that the quota allocated to citizens of Russia and many CIS countries is exceeded every year. Go to the UN's Russian site (http://www.un.org/ru/) and review the size of the quota for the next year in order to really assess your opportunities to get a job.
Go to http://www.unsystem.org and see the list of sites of organizations in the UN. Visit those of them, the work in which you would be interested. Find out the conditions for filing documents for the vacancies offered by each of these units.
To apply for a job, contact the website http://careers.un.org first and register as an applicant for your chosen position.
It can also happen that you can start working in the UN, literally without leaving home, as you live in a region where there are not yet its official representatives, or where assistance is required from this organization. In this case, control over your work will be carried out by the local authorities, with which you and will have to coordinate all your further actions.
Depending on which region of the country and the world the UN requires employees of your qualifications, you will need to constantly coordinate your actions with agencies and departments of various levels (up to ministries).
Even if you decide to join the ranks of volunteers in one of the missions in not-so-prosperous regions, your activities can be different: from saving a population dying from exotic diseases to working as a temporary consultant on international issues.
Before you get a referral to work in the UN structure, take the test and take the exams for knowledge of the official language of your chosen country. The testing program usually includes questions about international law and the laws of the state you are applying for.
