How to conduct a seminar
Plan the workshop so that the lesson combines the theoretical part and practice exercises. The ratio of these two components will depend on the specifics of the material that you present. In some cases, the lack of practice and exercise can be compensated for by active two-way communication, exchange of experience. Choose the appropriate form of the event: club seminar; webinar; training; presentation; Master Class.
Check the availability of all necessary for the event. At a minimum, you need chairs, tables, bottled water, sheets, pens. If you plan to conduct a webinar, you need to install Skype, TrueConf or ooVoo on your computer. For a club workshop, which is usually held over a cup of tea, check for the availability of the necessary food items. In addition, in each case, you may need additional equipment. For example, it is difficult to speak in front of a large audience without a chair and a microphone.
Introduce yourself at the beginning of the seminar. Name not only your first and last name, but also regalia, and if you represent a company, - a position. When up to ten people participate in the event, to create a warmer atmosphere, ask to introduce yourself and those present. If the seminar is intended for a wider audience, unfortunately, there is usually no opportunity to meet each other.
Start by announcing the workshop plan to prepare the audience for what they are about to hear. If the detailed plan was known to participants in advance, you can skip this point.
Since, according to the observations of the researchers, it is difficult to maintain the focused attention of the audience for longer than 20-30 minutes, intersperse your monologue with exercises and exercises. This is better than dividing the workshop into two parts: theory and practice. Try to submit information in the form of a live story, read from a sheet only as a last resort. Describe the material interesting: bring colorful analogies, resort to a subtle humor, explain with illustrative examples. If necessary, use video clips.
Tasks for participants of a seminar print out on separate sheets and distribute to everyone. Come up with individual or collective exercises, depending on the specifics of the subject you are teaching. Try to be involved all those present.
At the end of the seminar, hand over to each participant a certificate that he has completed the training, leave your contact details and a plan for future seminars.
