How to take a managerial position
A stereotypical view about how the easiest way to break into a leadership position is to go over the heads. I do not believe this common misconception. This is the tale. In fact, this belief often causes people worthy of leadership positions, do not seek him because they do not want to participate in intrigues. Often, the complexity of the choice of the person for the post of Director is that it is not easy to find someone really suited to this position. Some do not want to improve, others simply do not. To occupy important and responsible positions, is not so much wanting, so don't think that you will find a huge competition.
Another important principle for career growth is very rare the Deputy Director became Director. As a rule, if a Director resigns, he is replaced by looking for someone on the side, much less assign employees from your company. There are exceptions, but rare. If your company is not very large, and grows rapidly, it is a chance. For large companies with established personnel like the personnel changes have minimal probability. If you want to move up the career ladder quickly, it is more advantageous strategy shift places of work with a consistent increase in posts.
Changing the place of work, try to take a leadership position. The head of Department with a small number of subordinates – such a post is fine, even if the promised wages will be small. But you will be able to gain experience as a leader, so then it's much simpler to get a high-paying Executive position.
Look like a leader and behave accordingly. You should not only dress, but also to keep himself, to be good and calm to talk. Think as a leader, try to solve problems be confident in their abilities. If your appearance is something that separates you from the employees, get these features. For example, if you have long hair, do regular hair. Look at how the look and behave of the Director, do everything exactly the same.
Learn how to lead. You should be able to force someone to do something that he may not want too. This does not mean you have to stop practicing on others. But the ability to persuade, to show man that now, for example, you have this complex report to do – it's a skill of a leader. The present Director who achieves success, not shouting and commanding subordinates, pressing on them, never humiliates its people. But they do what's required.
Do your duties as well as the best employees in your company. Despite the fact that leadership skills are fundamentally different from the skills of workers to cope with their responsibilities, you will not be able to prove worthy of high office, if not better than most.
Interested in the work of the management. Of course, you should not start doing it from the very first days of work at the new location. But when you are settled in the company, start to look at the duties of a Director, and eventually you will see that it is not so complicated things. When you understand this, you will be much easier to take a leadership position.
Each company has its main activity, and there are additional ones. For example, if you work in an audit firm, then accounting is the main one for it. Be engaged in core activities in your company, not ancillary.
